Frequently Asked Questions

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care profession, emphasizing prevention, treatment, and optimal health through diet and lifestyle changes that stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself. Naturopathic doctors work to identify the root cause of illness, instead of treating the symptoms, to bring about more sustainable healing and balance to the body. The body responds better when it is given the correct tools and support it needs to heal itself and my job is to help you identify these things and guide you towards optimizing your health. The practice of naturopathic medicine includes modern and traditional, scientific, and empirical methods. For more info, visit www.naturopathic.org
Acupuncture is all about restoring balance to the body. “Where there is pain, there is stagnation” is a saying that explains the rationale behind many of our treatments for pain management – when there is poor circulation of qi (chi) or blood, pain or discomfort will result. Acupuncture helps to target these areas of stagnation to encourage a more balanced flow of energy and circulation. Acupuncture also stimulates delta waves in your brain to induce a calming and restful state, causing many people to take a nice rest or go into a meditative state during their treatment.

Naturopathic visit: The first visit typically lasts 1-1 1/2 hours long, during which my goal is to get to know you, your medical history, and your current and future health goals. I will do a thorough intake to gain an understanding of what’s happened in your life that has affected your health up to this point so we can figure out the best treatment approach to go from here. I will do an examination and possibly order some labs or specialty testing. It’s a good idea to provide me with previous lab work and other documents that you feel are important to share with me. I will customize a treatment plan for you and as we work together, we will modify it as needed.

Acupuncture session: I will conduct a thorough intake as well as examine your tongue and pulse to help determine any imbalances in your constitution. Treatments are individualized based on your symptoms and constitution. The first session is typically 1-1.5 hours long, follow up appointments are 60min.

Observing the tongue and the pulse gives clues to your overall health and can help guide or confirm a Chinese medicine diagnosis. When looking at the tongue, we are taking note of the shape, color, size, coating, indentations, and other characteristics. For the pulse, we are observing the rate, depth, strength, and overall quality of the pulse. Based on these findings, I can tailor the treatment to address your overall constitution and restore balance in organ systems or meridians.

The beauty of holistic medicine is that treatments address the whole person. Therefore, I treat a wide variety of conditions, this ranges from acne to digestive disorders, to autoimmune conditions, to aches and pains, to infertility and menstrual disorders, and the list goes on.. I work in partnership with my patients to determine the underlying cause of these conditions so that we can treat the cause and remove obstacles to healing. If there is a condition that requires a referral to a specialist, I’m happy to do that as well.

I am happy to set up an online consultation via Skype or Zoom.
